A SHORT HISTORY OF THE MOTORCYCLE

Todays motorcycles are everywhere and there are lots of different types or kinds of bikes as well.

They were really focusing more about the engine which was set up to power the two-wheeled contraption and not so much on creating a new kind of automobile, but the resulting impact on motorized travel would be tremendous. There were harga fino of steam powered bikes, however this was the first oil powered bike.

Not long then in 1894 the very first production motorcycle went on sale as the Hildebrand & Wolfmüller bicycle. It was not long after that before a number of the bicycle companies of the time got into the act and began selling variations of what was basically motorized bicycles. However, as horsepower improved, the engines started to outgrow the bicycle frames which were used as their own carriage.

The hottest motorcycle business prior to World War 1 was Indian motorcycle. Following the war, Harley Davidson took on the number one place until 1928 when DKW became the leading motorcycle manufacturer in the entire world. For a few years following World War two BSA took over as the largest motorcycle producer until 1955 when NSU Motorworks who had started out as a knitting machine firm in 1884 became the dominant manufacturer for another couple of decades.

In the 1970s the Western companies Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki forced their entry into this field, transformed the face of the market, and immediately became the most dominant motorcycle suppliers to the world from then on. Since the 70s Honda has held the title of the world’s largest motorcycle maker. Today, the big four bike makers have penetrated virtually every bicycle marketplace in the world, and they’re highly regarded as makers of premium quality motorcycle products.

In recent years some of those elderly bicycle manufacturers like the Indian have regained popularity with Harley Davidson being the most successful by far.
